Saturday, Oct. 3Mountain Yarns will be hosting a Fall Fiber Festival in the second floor atrium of the Commons Building on Main Street Margaretville from 1 - 4 p.m. on Oct. 3 to kick off the multi-arts "Art in Common" fall events. This is a hands on affair to temp your creative juices. Sit at a spinning wheel, weave on a loom or try your hand at rug hooking. Take an introductory knitting lesson or just bring your knitting, crocheting or spinning along and sit for a while. Art in Common" is a multi-arts collaboration presenting events each Saturday afternoon in the Commons Building (businesses will open for shopping during events). Events are free of charge and refreshments will be available. Saturday, Oct. 10Writers in the Mountains will present a reading with a wine and local cheese tasting, from 3-5 p.m. in the second floor atrium of the Commons Building on Main Street Margaretville on Oct 10 as part of the multi-arts "Art in Common" fall events collaboration. The selections are from Journal Writing classes held at Roxbury Arts Group and Fairview Library. Ev Ellsworth, who leads the journal classes, has invited Geoff Rogers, Leah Schiff, Doree Hubar, Marilyn Parker and Beth McGuire as some of the readers. Local cheese makers will share their goods with support from the Center for Agricultural Development and Entrepreneurship (CADE) and the New York Farm Viability Institute. Saturday, Oct. 17 Fine craft artisans will demonstrate various techniques of working with fabrics in the Commons Building on Main Street Margaretville from 3-5 p.m. on Oct 17.as part of the “Art in Common” fall events. Jeremy and Claire Herz are a mother and son team of textile artists, while Jeremy is predominately a designer, Claire is well-versed in all aspects of quilting as her demonstration will show. Lisa Scalf will show you how she takes recycled cans and fabricates them into footstools and other fun items. Katherine Somelofski will demonstrate the craft of rag basket weaving. Events are free of charge and refreshments will be available. Saturday, Oct. 31The merchants of the “Commons Building of Margaretville” would like to invite you to a Halloween Party from 2-4 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the Commons Building. Wear your costume and come “trick or treat”. Hot cider and donuts will be served and of course treats for the kids. Saturday, Nov. 7Fine craft artists will be center stage demonstrating various traditional crafts on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 3-5 p.m, in the Commons Building on Main Street Margaretville as part of the multi-arts "Art in Common" fall events collaboration. Lynn Thomas will demonstrate the craft of gourd art as she cuts and designs this common work of nature into an uncommon work of art. Liza Belle Burke will show us her leathersmything skills, creating custom sandals and wearable art. Tara Hu will demonstrate the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy. At the same time, in the Longyear Gallery, fine artist Nat Thomas will give a lecture and slide show on “How to Look at Modern Art”. Events are free of charge and refreshments will be available.
