Cookies & Caroling
The first annual “Cookies and Caroling” event which took place in the Commons Building of Margaretville on December 12th was a great success with more than 30 cookie entries from local bakers.
The judges; Bonnie Walker, Barbara Moses and Kent Brown had no easy time deciding the winners with all the delicious sweet treats being offered. First Prize for the “Best Cookie” went to Marge Helenchild for her beautiful cookie assortment. Mary Peterson was awarded both Second and Third Prize for her tea cookies with lemon curd and mole chocolate chili cookies. Honorable mentions went to Barbara Alyn, Joy Holden, Turid Murad, Liz Mc Daniel, Connie Jeffers and Howard Raab, with awards ranging from the “Most Original” to the “Crispiest” cookies.
The winners received gift certificates from; The Cheese Barrel, Sweet Peas, Freshtown, Home Goods of Margaretville, M. Gerard Country Home, Little Sprouts, Wildflowers, Mountain Yarns and the Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild.
Following the contest, Patricia Dell and Kent Brown performed some of our Holiday Favorites with a sing along as everyone got to taste all the wonderful cookie entries and savory coffees donated by the “Portfolio Café”. Cookies from this event were donated to the “Community Christmas Project” to help with their fundraising efforts.
Thank you to all the bakers who brought in cookies and we hope to see you next year at the second annual “Cookies and Caroling” event. This event was sponsored in part by Commons Building & Main Street Merchants in collaboration with the MARK Project, and a grant from the O’Connor Foundation.
