Press Release: Catskill Mountain News 09/07/2011:
Local Artists Create Fundraising Raffle

Margaretville’s Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild and the Longyear Gallery have
joined in a unified effort to establish a fundraising raffle of donated
artisan crafts and fine art by both the Guild and Gallery members, as
well as neighboring community artists. Working with the MARK Project,
all proceeds will be designated for flood relief and rebuilding for our
local communities. Donated items will be displayed in the Commons
Building as well as on the Catskill Mountains Artisans Guild website’s
online store later this week. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $10
each. All donated items are assigned a bag for ticket placement. Ticket
holders can then choose to place that ticket in the bag that represents
the raffle item of which they are interested in winning. Drawing for all
items will take place on Saturday November 5th, and for those who can
not be present at the drawing, the winning tickets will be posted on the
Guild website.
“This has been a pouring out of generosity from
our local artists.” says Jill Cline, Guild and Fundraiser organizer. The
fundraiser was born this past Sunday with a beautiful quilt donated by
Guild artist Claire Herz and a $250 gift certificate to the Guild
gallery. At the days end more than twenty pieces were added to the
roster of donated works. Cline expects the number of donated works to
triple by the end of this week.
The Guild artists are working on
additional fund raising efforts to help in flood relief and recovery.
Some are pledging 10% of their sales and artisan Lisa Scalf is donating
100% of the sales from her “Catskill Mountain Bumper Stickers”, while
Peggy Clarke has created and is contributing the proceeds from sales of
100 ceramic house ornaments with her message “Rebuilding our
Community...House by House”. Jeweler Barbara Petrini is also offering
100 her Catskill Mountain Hemlock pine cone earrings for a donation.
The
Guild remains open during clean up and recovery and invites everyone to
come help the cause by viewing donated artwork and purchasing a ticket
or two, or three to help with the relief and recovery.
Raffle
tickets can be purchased, and other local artists may donate work by
contacting the Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild at the Commons Building,
785 Main St. Margaretville, by phone: 845-586-3443, or email us:info@catsguild.org.
